2008 Internship/Work-Study
Class Action is a national non-profit whose mission is to inspire action to end classism. We raise awareness, facilitate cross-class dialogue, support cross-class alliances, and work with others to promote economic justice.
Development/Special Events Internship
30-40 hours a week in J-term & Summer
Minimum 8-10 hours a week Spring and Fall Semesters
Join in helping to support the growth and development of a dynamic social change organization. Experience the nuts and bolts of a nonprofit while learning valuable skills that can be applied anywhere.
This internship will include the following elements:
Prepare individual donor communications
- Research for individual donor and foundation support
- Plan and implement donor cultivation events (house parties)
- Work with Inspiring Action Campaign Coordinator and volunteer committee on Special Events planning and promotion
- Develop promotional materials (t-shirts, buttons, bumper stickers, etc.)
- Write features about Class Action
- Create Development Content for www.classism.org
Skills: Ability to
- work independently
- follow instructions and ask for clarity when needed
- conduct web-based research, word processing, and quickly learn a database program
- report accurately on all projects
- communicate needs
- attend to details
- write up research
- talk comfortably with donors, volunteers, allied organizations and media
- ability to maintain confidentiality
Knowledge and interest in class, classism, and writing/marketing is essential. Knowledge with Mac platform and advanced computer, desktop publishing, and data-base skills would be a real plus.
Limited stipends available: Class Action is committed to having an economically diverse staff. If you have the means to refuse the stipend in order for someone else to receive it, please let us know. If you have a work-study stipend you may be able to use it at Class Action. Credit might also be arranged.
