2008 Internship/Work-Study
Class Action is a national non-profit whose mission is to inspire action to end classism. We raise awareness, facilitate cross-class dialogue, support cross-class alliances, and work with others to promote economic justice.
Administrative Internship
30-40 hours a week in J-term & Summer
Minimum 8-10 hours a week Spring and Fall Semesters
Good administrative work is essential to the health of a nonprofit. It is actually the oil that keeps the engine running. Without it, nonprofits fail. With this internship, we aim to honor and empower administrative work. Come see the nuts and bolts of a nonprofit while learning valuable skills that can be applied anywhere.
This internship will have 6 elements:
1. Data Entry- Learn about databases: entry and utilization
2. Communications - Help with fall appeals and newsletters (this includes mail merges, formatting and some content input)
3. Computer Programs - Learn Contribute, a website building program, and help create our monthly enewsletter. Work with InDesign to design flyers for upcoming programs.
4. Basic Administrative Duties - Answer phones, answer mail, process donations
5. Promotion - Work on the promotion of national workshops.
6. Web presence – Research and help evolve our presence on the web
Skills: Ability to
- work independently
- follow instructions and ask for clarity when needed
- conduct web-based research, word processing, and quickly learn a database program
- report accurately on all projects
- communicate needs
- attend to details
- write up research
- talk comfortably with allied organizations and media
Knowledge and interest in the class, classism is essential. Knowledge with Mac platform and advanced computer, desk-top publishing, and web-design skills would be a real plus.
Limited stipends available: Class Action is committed to having an economically diverse staff. If you have the means to refuse the stipend in order for someone else to receive it, please let us know. If you have a work-study stipend you may be able to use it at Class Action. Credit might also be arranged.
