ACTION ALERT!
Congress is back in session and moving quickly on important
legislation! Throughout the past year, students have been mobilizing
to improve access and affordability of higher education for all and
the time has come. If passed, The College Cost Reduction Act (H.R.
2669) promises the largest increase in student aid in over 60 years!
On September 7th, the House and Senate will pass their final votes on
the College Cost Reduction Act, increasing federal aid and reducing
loan interest rates.
Help make education a right for all: Call your Representatives and
Senators TODAY and urge them to vote for the College Cost Reduction
Act!
The College Cost Reduction Act will provide increases to the Pell
Grant, student loan interest rate reductions, and repayment of debt
based on student borrower incomes. This bill prioritizes student
borrowers and provides a pathway toward manageable student debt. Join
the US Student Association and students around the country in making
sure education is a right!
Call TODAY: 1(800) 574-4AID [4243]
Script: Hello Congressperson ______. My name is ______. I am a student
at (name your University) and a voter in your district. I am calling
you today in conjunction with the United States Student Association to
urge you to vote to pass Budget Reconciliation. I support Budget
Reconciliation because it increases the Pell Grant to $5,400 over the
next 5 years, cuts interest rates on Stafford Loans in half, provides
income-based repayment for borrowers, and expands loan forgiveness to
fields such as social work and teaching. Please vote "yes" on budget
reconciliation today! Thank you for your time and students on my
campus are looking forward to seeing your continued support of higher
education.
If your Representative/Senator is already a supporter, ask her/him to
urge their colleagues to be supporters as well.
