ACTION ALERT!
Farmworkers do some of the hardest labor in the country, providing people across the nation with the food necessary for their survival. Yet farmworkers are among the least protected workers, facing exposure to toxic pesticides and herbicides and working long hours, all while being exempt from the (albeit far too low) minimum wage guaranteed to laborers in other industries. To keep the fields full under these conditions, the agricultural industry relies heavily on immigrant labor.
Farmworkers around the country are rallying around AgJOBS (S.340/H./H. 371), a bill that would allow undocumented farm workers to earn the right to permanently stay in the U.S. by continuing to work in agriculture. During the first week in October, farmworkers from across the country traveled to Washington, D.C. to share their stories.
