December 2005 Actions Against Classism
STOP THE CLASSIST BUDGET
Our December Action Continues, as Congress considers additional tax cuts for the rich and budget cuts that dramatically cut public spending
on food stamps, health care, child care, and services for very low income people.
For more information see "Tax Illogic" an editorial from the Washington Post.
Opportunity for All Campaign, coordinated by the Coalition for Human Needs
The Coalition on Human Needs launched this project to fight for a federal budget that protects services and benefits for low- and moderate-income Americans.
For millions of Americans, the door to opportunity may be swinging shut.
The federal budget should express a practical commitment to build a nation in which every American, young and old alike, is free from hunger, is adequately housed, and has access to health care. Yet increasingly we fear the opportunities to rise out of poverty are shrinking, and our children will have less of a chance to make a good life than earlier generations. As the gap between rich and poor widens, the upward mobility that has been the very hallmark of American progress is at risk. These trends are not beyond our control.

CHALLENGE AGGRESSIVE MARKETING TO CHILDREN
Tell your Members of Congress that children are more important than
corporate profits.
Advertising incessantly sells degraded values to children, such as materialism, addiction, violence and anti-social behavior. And it has
created an epidemic of marketing-related diseases in our children, such
as obesity, type 2 diabetes, alcoholism and eating disorders. Millions will
eventually die from tobacco advertising targeted at children.
No matter how hard parents try to keep damaging commercial influences out of their kids lives, it's almost impossible to do.
What Can I Do? Learn more about this special Campaign to Address Aggressive Marketing
to Children. See the poetic "Parents' Bill of Rights." And become an activist working with the consumer group Commercial Alert in their efforts to pass legislation mentioned in the Parent's Bill of
Rights. Click here to tell your Members of Congress to support the Parents' Bill of Rights, to stop corporate marketers
from hurting childrens' values, health and education.
