2008 Internship/Work-Study

Class Action is a national non-profit whose mission is to inspire action to end classism. We raise awareness, facilitate cross-class dialogue, support cross-class alliances, and work with others to promote economic justice.

Higher Education Program Internship

8-10 hours a week during Spring and Fall

30-40 hours a week for J-Term and Summer

Join in helping to develop one of Class Action’s newest program. Experience the nuts and bolts of a nonprofit while learning valuable skills that can be applied anywhere.

This internship will have include the following elements:

  1. Research groups working on organizing about class on campus
  2. Write articles based on interviews with students
  3. Further develop Class on Campus Organizing Toolkit
  4. Collect statistics and develop fact sheets about class and education Collect quotes, stories, and articles for race/class intersections website development
  5. Organize files for Higher Education Program
  6. Help to market workshops focusing on class on campus

Skills: Ability to

  • work independently
  • follow instructions and ask for clarity when needed
  • conduct web-based research, word processing, and quickly learn a database program
  • report accurately on all projects
  • communicate needs
  • attend to details
  • write up research
  • talk comfortably with allied organizations and media

Knowledge and interest in class, classism, class in education is essential. Knowledge with Mac platform and advanced computer, desk-top publishing, and data-base skills would be a real plus.

Limited stipends available: Class Action is committed to having an economically diverse staff. If you have the means to refuse the stipend in order for someone else to receive it, please let us know. If you have a work-study stipend you may be able to use it at Class Action. Credit might also be arranged.
